Annual Opportunities

May 15th to July 15th: Breaking Cover Submission Window

Breaking Cover is a play development series that provides Albertan Playwrights with valuable tools to test their newest work.

Our six-week development process provides a director, cast, mini rehearsal process, and dramaturgical support to your manuscript. It culminates with a public reading in the beautiful Snell Auditorium at the Red Deer Public Library. The reading is followed by a moderated question-and-answer period with your audience, so that you leave with new insight into your play from the inside out.

Submissions are accepted May 15th - July 15th of each year.

Submissions are currently closed for the 2025 - 2026 season and will reopen in May of 2026.

January 15th - March 15th: Theatre Artist Residency Application Window

We have piloted a program to provide a Theatre Artists' Residency for the 2025-2026 season.

Pending the success of the pilot program, the residency may continue to future years.

Submissions for the 2026 - 2027 residency would open in January of 2026.

January 15th - April 15th: The Carol Forhan Scholarship Application Window

The Carole Forhan Scholarship is available on an annual basis, in the amount of $500, awarded to an individual who demonstrates passion, dedication, a solid work ethic and commitment to theatre, and who is moving ahead to further their education and/or knowledge in the area of Theatre Arts.

Applications are closed for the 2025 year and will reopen January 15th - April 15th of 2026.
