Red Deer Players Currently:
After our AGM in November we were successful in nominating a new board for our 2018 season:
President: Lori Lane
Vice President: Jason Steele
Secretary: Julia van Dam
Treasurer: Cassidy Crawford
Member at Large: Susan Dearing
Lori Lane began her community theatre journey in 1982 when she was one of about a group of five or six who set up a community theatre group in Wetaskiwin. She moved to Red Deer in 1985 and immediately became involved in Central Alberta Theatre as an actor in both dinner theatre and musical productions.
As is typical in community theatre, Lori then became involved on the technical side as a stage manager as well as doing sound and lighting before venturing into the world of directing. Lori's directorial career included formal training over the course of a three year period that introduced her to the field that soon became her passion.
Lori took a break from theatre in 2000 to pursue her new passion as "mom" to Owen - but before that, her directorial credits ranged from sketch comedy, to dinner theatres and large scale musical productions such as Evita! and Jesus Christ, Superstar.
Lori returned to theatre in 2015 when she directed RDP's astoundingly successful Twelve Angry Men which produced standing ovations every night of its run, and was immediately followed by the equally successful production of Mass Appeal. Most recently Lori directed Calendar Girls which played to sold out houses in spring, 2017. She continues to serve on the RDP board, taking on the role of chair for this term.
This is Cassidy’s first term on the Red Deer Players board and she is excited to put her rich arts and theatre experience, both technical and administrative, to work in helping RDP fulfill its destiny in the Red Deer arts community.
Cassidy holds two diplomas in technical theatre from both John Abbott College in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec and most recently from Red Deer College where she also received the 2015 Governor General’s Academic Medal (Collegiate Bronze Level) Award. Currently she is enrolled in the Arts and Cultural Management online program at MacEwan University in Edmonton.
Cassidy has worked with professional and community based arts organizations in a variety of roles including sound, lighting and stage technician, technical director, stage manager, scenic painter and has had the opportunity to ply her crafts to RDP’s most recent productions including Calendar Girls and Airs Raids & Siren Songs.
Cassidy’s toolbox also includes a wealth of small business and customer service experience gained through freelancing as a theatre technician and several business ventures co-owned with her husband including a music store and small engine shop.
The combination of arts based training and business experience is what affords Cassidy the ability to take on her newest role as a board member and treasurer with gusto and she is honoured to be a part of RDP and excited about its bright future.
We're currently working hard to organize community events and workshops for this spring and summer, so stay tuned to this homepage as well as our Facebook for more information as it comes!
