The Carole Forhan Theatre Arts Scholarship

Carole Forhan succumbed to her illness on Monday, October 24th, 2016. She left behind a loving family and many, many  grieving friends. At this time, we said goodbye to someone who was friend, mentor, actor, playwright and stalwart supporter to so many in the theatre community.

Carole arrived in Canada in 1957, in Hamilton, Ontario with her family after immigrating from England. In the mid 60’s, she and her family moved to Montreal, where she first became involved in theatre.

Her exposure to theatre began to turn into a passion when she moved to Drumheller in the 1980’s, where she accepted a position as the Secretary to the High School Principal. Her exposure and involvement in the High School drama club, showed her early commitment to youth, and youth in theatre, where she acted as chaperone to the high school drama club as they travelled to various locations to stage productions, became involved in one act festivals, video productions, and converted an empty shell of a room into a 130 seat theatre! Carole also became heavily involved in community theatre in Drumheller, in the form of Kaleidoscope Theatre. She continued to support community theatre in Drumheller even when she later relocated to Red Deer, by bringing groups of Red Deer theatre lovers to see Kaleidoscope productions!

Following a family move in the 90’s to Saskatoon, she also continued her involvement in community theatre there. The family’s final move to Red Deer saw Carole settle into many roles, both on stage and back stage, with Central Alberta Theatre, where she was recognized as a life member. Her sense of initiative continued to shine through, however, with the creation of yet another new theatre group, The Red Deer Players.

Carole's triumphs spread from Montreal, to Saskatoon, to Drumheller and to here, in Red Deer! Wherever Carole went, she sprinkled and spread seeds - seeds of love…of theatre, of people – especially youth , of animals and of community. She was the Sun to our Sunflowers - wherever she went, she was the light to which we responded.
