Ashley Rose Mercia

Ashley Rose Mercia returned to Canada in September of 2013 after teaching English in Japan for two years. Following things like climbing Mt. Fuji, discovering herself, and backpacking through Asia, she came back and was bitten hard by the theatre bug. Ashley graduated from the Red Deer College’s Theatre Performance and Creation program in April, 2016 where she enjoyed the roles of Ariel in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and Pinocchio in Shrek: The Musical.

She is also a proud member of Red Deer’s Bull Skit Comedy where she very regularly performs, writes, and creates improv and sketch comedy.

Ashley most recent role was with Calgary’s Workshop Theatre in a play entitled In Love and Warcraft. She was able to flex her character-acting muscles as the Female Ensemble role where she played all of the extra women in the play. She also acted as the fight captain for the play’s stage combat scenes.

Returning from a month of studying improvisation at Chicago’s iO Theatre in July and August, Ashley is excited to take on her very first role as director for Indoor/Outdoor. She would like to thank everyone involved with the show, and especially all of the Red Deer Players who helped her discover and grow every step of the way throughout this process. Their support and
confidence in her really means the world.
